Which of these would generally be more enjoyable?

Now that I have your attention:

1st year analyst with ~ 11 months experience, getting to the final stages of interviewing to switch firms one of which is a lateral to an EB in M&A, the other is as a Business Analyst at a MBB.

Which of these would generally be more enjoyable?

I’ve heard that the EB group hours are anywhere from 60-90 while the MBB is 50-70

I’d say the answer is highly contingent upon (1) your professional aspirations and (2) the aspects of your current role you actually enjoy.

(1): Are you envisioning your next move to be a long-term spot? Would you want to subsequently pivot to an investor role? If so, would you lean towards VC, Growth Equity, or PE? Would you rather jump into an operational role? Do you want to join a Corp Dev team or does a Strategy & Ops/Chief of Staff role at a startup sound more enticing?

(2): The work is going to highly vary in Consulting versus IB. I won’t harp on IB given you’ve already spent almost a year in your current role. But - in consulting, you’ll likely gain a broader skillset encompassing client management, complex problem-solving (e.g., spearheading operational improvement, high-level strategic work), etc.

Just posing the above as food for thought as you debate your decision. In any case, you’re in a fantastic position to have your pick between these two options - best of luck!

I heard the emo goth girls peg the hardest, might be right up your alley champ! One man one jar is a great step by step tutorial how to decide between 2 things by the way. The man has to place certain things he values in a jar and then either

A - shove it up his ass

or

B - accept the EB job

The prestige of MBB is only matched across fields by only the biggest names (GS/MS/JPM) in my opinion. I think you'll learn a lot more at the MBB but then again as another person has said, it's about your choice of a long-term career.
