Is it possible to be in global advisory then become an investment banker?

Hi, im applying for grad schemes and realised not every firm is offering IB. So is it possible to go through another route (Asset Management or global advisory) etc and then after the graduate scheme maybe get into investment banking? I have applied for both but in case I'm not successful in getting the IB position. Also what are the chances of me going into IB if i do my graduate scheme in lets say GA or anything else.
