Is it worth lying about your ethnicity to get into diversity programs?

Hi, I'm white female freshman at a semi-target. I was wondering if it's worth lying about your racial background to get into a diversity program (think SEO, ALPFA, etc.).

1) Do these programs ever ask detailed questions about your ethnic background in interviews? How rigorous are their background checks?

2) What is the likeliest outcome if I'm discovered? What's the worst case scenario? Will I get blacklisted by major banks?

Any input would be appreciated!

EDIT: lol we all got trolled

Risks. I know two people at my target that got dropped by their bank after the bank found out. One instance was particularly brutal, where the MD that interviewed the person had a similar background the person was trying to portray. Once the bank found out the intern was lying, they later pulled the FT offer after most banks finished FT recruiting in mid fall.

So go ahead and risk it, the downside is incredible, but if you feel like you have no other path then by all means you’re playing with house money. Do NOT do it if you want to marginally improve your odds. (Diversity kids have to network, too)

 

You realize that as a woman, it's already exponentially easier for you to land ANY banking role, right? Like, there could be 5,000 male applicants for LAZ IBD, and 500 female applicants. They will strive to make class atleast 45% female. Despite knowing that, you still feel the need to get an extra advantage?! -- I feel bad for you. Honestly, I really do. 

 

I really hope you end up doing this for my BB's diversity program and we end up catching your BS. I will make it my sole mission to push my MD to make calls to his friends across the Street and telling them what you just did.
