Is this middle office?

Hi all, I am considering a tax advisory internship position at a MM in which I would be advising clients on the taxing repercussion of financial instruments and events. As I'm sure it's not FO, would this be considered BO or MO? Secondly, since my aim is to get into IB later, how would I go about networking inside the bank with the IB arm of the bank? The role is located in the same building as IB so maybe I thought about inviting them to coffee chats and asking them about their experiences.
