It seems I’ve screwed myself by starting as an analyst in PE…
Ignore title, AN2 at a small PE shop. Started out after undergrad as an AN1, and originally took this route thinking that if I wanted to end up in PE why put myself through IB? A year or so in and I realized that I had no deal experience and had not experienced anything close to the level of training and reps as my peers in IB. This sentiment is generally echoed by my peers that took a similar route as I (ranging from MF to LMM PE shops), and anecdotally it seems like PE shops are rolling back their analyst programs. However, I’ve realized that the vertical I’m working in does not interest me and am trying to exit/lateral, and am open to taking a year back, but I’ve had very little luck finding jobs that will interview me, let alone any opportunities I am particularly competitive at (compared to the many AN2 at banks that have far better and more relevant experience than I do). Any pieces of advice on how to exit upstream or lateral into a BB/EB AN1 lateral banking roll?
