Based on previous WSO threads, here are some insights on the lateral application process at Jefferies:

  1. Application Process:

    • Jefferies often posts openings for various teams such as M&A, Consumer, and Healthcare (HC).
    • The process typically involves submitting an application through their careers portal or via networking contacts within the firm.
  2. Interview Focus:

    • Interviews at Jefferies can be quite rigorous, focusing on both technical skills and cultural fit.
    • Expect questions on financial modeling, valuation techniques, and industry-specific knowledge, especially if applying for specialized teams like Healthcare.
  3. Networking:

    • Networking can play a crucial role in the lateral hiring process. Reaching out to current employees or alumni from your school who work at Jefferies can provide valuable insights and potentially help in getting your application noticed.
  4. Preparation:

    • Prepare thoroughly for technical interviews by brushing up on your financial modeling and valuation skills.
    • Stay updated on industry trends and recent deals, particularly in the sector you are applying for (e.g., Healthcare, Consumer).
  5. Cultural Fit:

    • Jefferies places a strong emphasis on cultural fit. Demonstrating your alignment with the firm's values and work ethic can be beneficial.

For those of us who are only dreaming of doing this, or hoping to in the near future, can someone else show the process works? Specifically, I'd like to be in 2 of them, not in the same group, but I don't know how to get in front of the right groups who are hiring and what qualifications they want. I see a lot of non-traditional and alternative individuals, including from non-conventional backgrounds, but don't know how to emulate that. Yes, I am networking, but not much luck.

Has anyone heard back after having interviews with the M&A group? Have had a few interviews with them so far. Last interview was last week but haven't heard anything back yet.
