Jewelry as a New Analyst

So this is a dumb question. I'm an incoming analyst (male) and during my senior year I got my nose and ears pierced. The ears are just small studs, and the nose is a small, gold ring on the right nostril. I love my piercings as a form of self expression, but I'm worried that they might be taken the wrong way. I'm not trying to screw my career from the start, so should I take them out?

Would definitely take the nose piercing out I doubt ppl care about the earrings, but if an MD or senior or even an associate comments on them (even in passing) I'd say take them out. Respectfully, it's banking not modeling. we aren't paid to express ourselves. It's service/sales so like it or not people respond to how you look/dress.

Virtually no one you work with is going to directly care about your jewelry or piercings. What they will care about is the non-zero probability that if they put you in front of a client, said client might potentially have a less than positive impressive. Hence, it would likely be frowned upon - it creates an unnecessary downside risk, with no upside.By way of example, bankers don't wear suits because it's fashionable. They do it because they are in a service business and it is a conventionally accepted white collar uniform that has virtually no chance of offending any potential client or counterparty.

Edit: source: former tongue piercing (pre-internship/interviews), former/current ear piercing (haven’t worn since starting full time, except “ironically” and always outside of work).

myself and several other male interns at my bank this summer all have pierced ears. It’s a lot more common than you’d think. Thing is you’d never know because we all took them out in the office. I doubt anyone will say anything to ur face but ppl will definitely look at u different whether it’s conscious or not. Imo not worth the risk - just rock the studs on the weekends and pop them out on Monday mornings. I’m all for self expression or whatever in general but Monday-Friday best believe I’m gonna look like the corporate drone that I am

Nose ring should come out, regardless of gender

Earrings are ok if very small, I would personally take them out for work though.

I'm all for self-expressionism, do what you want and it doesn't bother me, etc... but banking is still a very conservative / professional work environment and you will stick out in a bad way, especially with seniors

I have rings in both of my nipples and need to cut the ring in order to get them off (they are soldered on). It isn’t obvious but you can definitely see them through my shirt if you look closely. Do I need to get them removed before I start banking?
