Job Snob
Is anyone here a job snob like myself? I tend to judge people (mostly men) based on their occupation. It's super shallow, but I can't help but feel that way.
Anyone else struggle with this?

Whatever floats your boat ... I guess ...
i tend to do this with finance roles. if someone works a in a field i know nothing about, i tend to care less
Think this is more or less what it is. May judge someone if they work in finance due to knowing a lot of what's out there. But if someone is doing sales for SAP then we'll just leave it there.
Shows you have a lot of insecurities that you need to deal with.
I think that happens when most of our self-esteem stems from our job...
Don't blame you but something to consider.
That's fine I suppose, but I doubt most people don't understand what you do, and for the most part, they don't really care. When people hear finance who aren't in finance, they assume boring but must make decent money. IMO it's pretty silly to judge someone off their job... as long as they're happy, who really cares?
And maybe they judge you for spending your entire early 20's working and not having the time to really get out and experience the world in the same capacity that they can with their "inferior" jobs.
I think you are a massive pussy that has such low self esteem you need to boost your self worth by viewing someone as inferior because they do not work in IB which is incredibly pathetic for a grown ass man to do. Moreover, I question how boring you have to be to base your entire personality and value in this world on a job.
thank you IB or die, very cool!

It's not entirely your fault, society tends to value men based on their occupation. Having said that, it's not a healthy way to approach the world. You should rise above it and see that you were afforded great opportunities that others weren't. As such, how can you judge others with such different starting points?
No
Eliminate judgmental thoughts and emotions. Stop comparing yourself to other people. Compare yourself to who you were yesterday. Remember that no one gives a fuck. You reap what you sow, if you’re going to think that way about other people expect to have that same reaction towards you. I doubt you’d want that, I know I wouldn’t. Simple life rule. I’ve had this problem as well. Progress will be incremental at first but then you’ll really notice a difference.
Don't do that, because I guarantee you aren't the top of your field and that there's something doing better than you who could also do the same to you.
Well you’re on this forum so you definitely aren’t alone. If anything, this place has made me start looking at peoples job/academic background in a different way. It’s pretty toxic, but I suppose that’s the mentality that leads people to interest in high finance. Fortunately, the people I know irl do a variety of different things and have modest lifestyles and I know the quality of their character. So I won’t ever go fully off the edge.
