IBD summer intern recruiting at the bulge-bracket banks in Asia finished back in January (the formal process, at least), so I wouldn't think they're still recruiting for this summer.

The process for Asia recruiting has also generally changed quite a lot over the past 2-3 years, such that there is now a heavy emphasis on hiring local-born, native speakers of Mandarin (for HK/China offices), who were also educated at top schools abroad. It's hard for true foreigners to break in.

J.P. Morgan held an "Asia roadshow" where they visited NY, Philly, and a few other cities last fall, to host networking sessions for U.S. college students. I'd guess that they'll do it again next fall, and that attending these events would be a help in the recruiting process. Look for them posted as "events" on the recruiting portal.

Cool - but what is the recruitment process 'if' you are selected? In terms of questions, process, who you interview with (if you are a foreigner) etc, what gets you through etc. Thanks!

I haven't gone through their Asia recruiting process personally, but I'm pretty confident it's the same as for other BBs in the region (which I have gone through). If you're based in the U.S., applications for Asia spots will be due around November. If your resume is picked, you'll probably have one or two rounds of phone interviews, taking place in December and/or the beginning of January. If successful in those, you'll be invited to a superday (2-4 in-person interviews) held at the NYC office, also probably in mid-late January. Offers should come out pretty quickly after, but could take up to two weeks if you're initially waitlisted. If you didn't get the offer, banks can be pretty slow to let you know.

For questions, the biggest difference from NY recruiting will be the "why Asia" question. They want to be assured that you're committed to the region, and won't leave to go back home after 2-3 years. They want people who will stay. Also, they will probably test your proficiency in Asian languages, if you've indicated any.

In terms of who you will speak to, note that firms will fly some of their Asia bankers to NY for the superday. So, despite the fact your superday will be in NY, you won't be interviewing with NY bankers. Phone call interviews will, of course, be with analyts/associates typically, also from the Asia office.

Cool - thanks for this!

So what types of ques are asked in the first round with analysts/associates? How about with the MDs/senior management? Same as the USA/European recruiting ques? Or just general market stuff, opinions on stocks/M&A deals and so on.

Why Asia vs USA or Europe? (if you are from the USA/Europe and supposing you were born in the West....) any valid non-BS sounding reasons? Haha

Anmol-Sheth, sorry there are no responses yet. Maybe one of these topics can point you in the right direction:

I hope those threads give you a bit more insight.

Hey man. I have also applied for one of the Asia recruitment programs and did the interview. Also been around 3 weeks since I had received word back. I applied for the undergrad program though. I did however receive an email today saying that they are still in the process of screening applications. Did you get that?

My experience last year with undergrad recruiting in Asia is that different divisions have different timelines and therefore have superdays on different days. If the timeline is more or less similar to what I had last year, superdays should be going on around now?

Hi hk19,

May I know if you are applying for SA or FT analyst? I have completed my JPM PB final round interview last week.

Fingers crossed.

Best,
