J.P. Morgan Equity Research SA vs UBS IBD SA

First thoughts on this decision? I guess ER would be better for HF exit ops in the long term while IBD is more suited for PE?

Would the J P Morgan name help over UBS regardless of what I wanted to do afterwards?

JPM has a very good sell-side ER platform, if we go by II rankings and how many resources they put into their research department (vs. something like GS where they apparently don't give a fuck about their ER franchise). On the other hand, the odds of getting a FT offer for ER post-SA are lower, they run pretty lean.

I would think your options look something like this

ER SA -> ER FT 2/3 years --> HF ER SA -> ER FT 2/3 years --> ER Forever ER SA -> ER FT 2/3 years --> B-School --> HF/PE

&

ER SA -> anything full time

IBD SA ->IBD FT 2 years --> HF/PE/B-School/Pre-Mba roles

While ER does exit to HF, the consensus is that IBD will likely still have an advantage even at most HFs.

If you can take the lifestyle, I would say IBD is always the clear choice for setting up the best exit ops and best chance at a FT offer. Just my opinion.

I like that breakdown.
