How long do people usually hear back from a lateral superday? When is it safe to assume a rejection / will they normally send you a rejection or just ghost? Shall I bother to check with HR?

If it's been long enough to wonder about it, it's likely you didn't get it. I got the call back later the same day. If your superday was a Friday, you'll likely hear back by lunch on Monday. It's never a "no" until you get the call / email, and some groups move slower than others, but it's typically a pretty quick turnaround (4-48 hours).
