Lateral move in banking

I am a first year MBA associate in one of the budge brackets in New York. Work in a coverage group and have been with the firm for a year. Feel this platform is pretty weak for various reasons and want to move to another bank with better deal flow and learning experience. Does anyone have any suggestions? Like timing to move, how to prepare, what skillset / experience do I need, etc? Our platform has weak deal flow so I probably cannot magically get meaningful live deals in the near future :(
