Lateral regret: how soon to look for next stint

Recently lateraled to a new bank. (Tier II/III) It’s extremely sweaty and somewhat toxic. How soon can I reasonably look for a new role? And what’s the best way to explain reason applying/interviewing so soon?

Ah, the old lateral move conundrum. It's a tricky one, isn't it? Now, based on the most helpful WSO content, it's generally advisable to stick it out in a role for at least 12 months unless you feel like progress is impossible. This is because you need to give yourself time to adjust, learn, and prove your worth.

However, if the environment is as toxic as you say, it's important to prioritize your mental health and well-being. If you're feeling overwhelmed, it might be worth considering a move sooner rather than later.

When it comes to explaining why you're looking for a new role so soon, honesty is usually the best policy. You can say that the culture wasn't a good fit for you, or that you're looking for a role that better aligns with your career goals. Just remember to keep it professional and avoid bad-mouthing your current employer.

Remember, every experience, good or bad, is a learning opportunity. So, even if this role isn't the perfect fit, you're still gaining valuable experience and learning more about what you do and don't want in a job. Keep your chin up, my friend!
