Lazard Ltd. fired a senior dealmaker following allegations of inappropriate behavior during a weekend party, according to people familiar with the matter.
The banker, a managing director in Lazard’s financial advisory business in the US, was terminated after an investigation into actions that were seen as incompatible with the firm’s values, the people said. Lazard’s incoming chief executive officer Peter Orszag informed staff in an internal memo Sunday, which didn’t name the individual or details of what happened.
The incident took place over the weekend at a personal party where other Lazard employees were also present, the people said, asking not to be identified because the information is private. Lazard acted swiftly to investigate the allegations and the employee was terminated over the weekend, they said.
A representative for Lazard declined to comment.
Many Wall Street firms say they’re taking a harder line on inappropriate behavior as financial institutions try to dismantle a culture that’s been criticized by investors and regulators alike.
Need this scoop!

Did anyone get fired for giving the interns alcohol at a work function which lead to their death on the subway?
This was so sad. I remember this from last summer. Feel like it was swept under the rug…
wtf I never heard about this

Why would anyone get fired? She was 22 years old.
I don't recall there being any definitive statement about her being intoxicated or not. Regardless, she was over 21. The bigger issue was about if Lazard should have allowed the interns to expense Uber's. It would probably have been decently expensive from Citi Field after a game, but it would have prevented her death.
It was a work function - believe they responded to a media inquiry that she would have been allowed to expense an Uber given the hour (past their 9pm cutoff) and that it was a company event.
The girl just tripped... Incredibly tragic but I don't think you can do a ton to prevent something like that. It's not like there is an extreme danger in taking the subway.
I knew this even though I was in Hong Kong, because the Chinese girl went to the same school with a close friend.
It was on Wednesday night for happy hour, and she just fell off the platform when heading home (not alone, with other colleagues, guess that might be a reason why she didn't use Uber).
It was truly a tragedy, even more heartbreaking when knowing she's from a not-so-wealthy single-parent family (believe me many Chinese parents would try their best, spend 90% of their income to afford their kids to go to US undergrad for the "American Dream"). The school's Asian community made a crowdfunding donation on a Chinese platform and many people donated one thing or two.
uhh, why would they get fired for that?
Wanna bet he was on the chopping block already and they took the slightest mistake to get rid of him?
Probably not, because they would’ve probably preferred to keep it out of the news
Reputation is everything in FA. They disclosed this because they had to. If this person was overpaid it may have offered an opportunity to cut them at less cost. Definitely not a primary reason.
Rumors say there was an intern involved in the incident
OK we get the gist...
