LGBTQ Banking Advice?
Just curious to see if there is a network of bankers who identify as LGBTQ+. Im bisexual but not super open about it. I'm breaking into the industry as a SA 2022 and I wanna see what it is like working in the industry being open about these things.Anything helps. Thanks!Edit: tons of hate on this topic I guess given all the monkey shit. If you have a problem with this thread then keep it to yourself. I'm just trying to seek out a network here.
To be fair, isn't that exactly what diversity people are saying? That having people from a variety of backgrounds helps firms serve its clients (who come from diverse backgrounds) better, create more welcoming workplaces for minorities, good PR/marketing for the firm, etc... thereby guaranteeing superior returns?
Yeah but "diversity people" are full of shit and only say things that will further their own interests so what's your point? How does sucking cock make you better at being an investment banker?
Ah yes, I'm sure adding OP, who is secretly somewhat attracted to men, will help better serve clients more than someone who is not secretly attracted to men
I secretly get off on sucking dick and really want to connect with others that enjoy it.. anyone else out there like me??? Totally relevant to banking.
Many banks (especially BBs) will have different organizations including LGBT organizations that you will be able to join once there
Jefferies has one called JMosaic (sp?)
DM me if you'd like, (the G). I'm open about it with ppl at my level but not rly any seniors atm. Happy to chat!

Don't take all the shit slinging to heart. Right now there's a very strong push to hire diverse candidates. I know I'm just a lowly risk guy, but there have been situations where HR has instructed me to pass on more qualified candidates in order to check a diversity box. It pisses people off. Using the work "Network" in conjunction with LGBTQ is going to elicit a very visceral response from non-diverse candidates right now.
I know thats probably not what you were going for, but if you post a thread like this again, it will be much better received if you just ask for thoughts or experiences instead of a "network". Not your fault, but the industry is highly polarized right now. The diversity initiatives are pushing a lot of people in finance towards an "us or them" mentality.
This post isn't meant to be disrespectful to anyone, just trying to explain why people might react badly to your thread OP.
fellow bi guy going into banking, feel free to pm i went through the diversity process and a ton of banks come to mind with a strong push for diversity (including LGBTQ+)
I would ignore the cacophony of mediocre white guys on this site. There are lots of networks out there that you can tap in to.

Here's a handful of links to specific banks that should lead to their internal network for different identity groups. Generally, if you Google "[Bank Name] LGBTQ network," among the top results will be a similar link. I am not LGBTQ+, but I imagine any of these people listed on the banks' sites would have no issues responding to a LinkedIn message.
I'm gay, know a few other LGBTQ people in finance, and while I think it could always be better, I don't think being LGBTQ is really an issue or necessarily something to worry about either.
That being said, finance in general is a place where, particularly as a junior, it helps to be able to blend in vs. stand out appearance and personality-wise, so I wouldn't necessarily recommend coming into work wearing some super eclectic outfit on your first day or going on and on about your debaucherous weekend at Fire Island, but that's more of a general principle on not being obnoxious/annoying than an LGBTQ-specific thing.
Once you get more comfortable with people (especially the other juniors), odds are like 99% that you'll find that absolutely no one gives a shit. And if there's someone that does give a shit, everyone else will probably think they're an asshole.
Actually everybody at my WASPy PE megafund gives a HUGE shit.
We don't do the DEI shenanigans, but if some LGBTQ alphabet soup soyboy sneaks past our "WASPs only radar", we give them hell until they leave.
This is likely true for any respectable/elite shop that isn't Salomon Sisters.
Does bisexual count as a diversity hire? Genuinely asking
