Lose the tie in interviews? (UK)

In my banking days recently I interviewed analysts and associates for my group and didn’t see a single person wearing a tie (tech M&A group in London). I was surprised as I thought the rule was you should wear a tie.

Now interview for tech buyside (growth equity) positions and wearing if I should ? To be honest, I feel so much more natural not wearing a tie, and lots of my interviewers are not even wearing a suit. Is it ok to lose the tie ? I’ve never worn a tie to work so it just feels weird. But don’t want to be blacklisted because some old fashion guy thinks I’m not serious. Trying to weight the pros and cons.

Are you saying, "loose" like a sloppy/loose tie? Or are you saying "lose" as in don't wear a tie?

Either way, in my experience, it's always better to be overdressed than underdressed. Can decide on the tie after you start.

I would always wear a tie in interviews but that's basically the only time I wear one

Had a round of interviews with a PC shop earlier in the year, recruiter highlighted that wearing a tie is a must within all the interview stages. (For LDN);

I still believe it reflects respect in London, especially in the interview stages if not for everyday work. Can't hurt to wear it, no one will judge you for being professional.
