Lower Small Cap M&A vs Strategy Consulting
Hi guys,
I am in desperate need to make a decision about my future job. I have received two job offers:
-
local small/mid-cap M&A boutique (deal size 50-500m$, 2–10 deals per year). Base salary 75k plus bonus. 65 hrs a week
-
Strategy consulting with a focus on transactions (Strategy, CDD, Separation, Integration etc) at an consultancy (EYP, Deloitte, S&). Base salary is 75k plus bonus. 48 hrs a week.
I have done several M&A internships and I do struggle making a decision. I value work/life balance, comp is better at option 2 on a hourly level but I fear to regret „never doing M&A“ if choosing option 2 and I am unsure whether a small local boutique will offer me any exit option. My gut feeling tells me to stick with option 1, but the consultancy offers a great benfit package with remote work from anywhere, an option for a secondment, paid MBA etc.
I have never worked in consulting and I am not sure if I enjoy the work I will do. I know that the work at option 2 will be More diverse, as the local boutique only does sellside processes - I am basically comparing weekly hours with the career I initially wanted to work in.
Does anyone was in a similar situation and has some recommendations?
Thank you very much, I appreciate any comment!
Br, Don
