Making the Most of Uni
This isn't going to be like one of the other posts about careers, academics, etc. I wanted to ask from the people on this site what they would recommend doing at university whilst I have the chance, or any advice you might have for me generally.
I am starting my degree at Oxbridge later this year. I feel like 3 years is a long time and, before you know it, it will end up passing you by if all your emphasis is on careers. Don't get me wrong, I think it's a good thing to have some emphasis and idea of a career - but I also want to understand what else I can look forward to in order to balance it out and be more diverse in what I want to achieve by the end of it.
All I really have been told is to talk to as many people as I can, and I personally set myself a goal to try save up for some travels over the course of my degree.
In trying to understand how to better form my goals, as well as if there is anything I should avoid, I wanted to know: Is there anything you regret not doing at uni? How would you do things differently if you had the chance? And, what did you find most valuable in these years - what were your best memories from?
Probs posted this in the wrong forum
Yeah my first reaction is wrong fucking forum lol but I do have a response because I have a lot of regrets about uni. Some might be obvious but maybe not:
Lol do the drugs. Did shit ton of acid and molly. Best time of life. Very sad a lot of ppl will never get to see the metaphorical heights. Dont be that lame nerd
I agree, I flew very close to the sun from 22-25 and would not have done it any other way. About to turn 26 soon and some of it is behind me since I got the fun I wanted out of it and most guys are chilling out
Experimenting with those especially at a concert with your closest friends for the first couple times is the most memorable shit ever, not to mention your body is a rubber band and will probably bounce back easily.
You never ever want to be that 30–35-year-old experimenting with this stuff for the first time imo.
+1
Plan that damn holiday with your boys, you will never get the opportunity back as everyone is never synced up schedule wise like that again and try entrepreneurship, I have failed at multiple businesses but I have learnt so much more than my degree has ever taught me.
I'm currently a 2nd-year at a top US school and wrapped up my junior-year summer analyst recruiting a few months ago. Take what a say with a grain of salt, because there are plenty of more experienced individuals on this forum, but given that I feel much more secure in the career-aspect of my college experience, I now feel as if I have the freedom to explore and take advantage of the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn under the most experienced professionals in all different fields. For example, next semester, I am taking courses in history, IR, political science - classes that I find genuinely exciting. The semester after, I'm going abroad to a country I've never been to and exploring a whole new continent there. However, during my previous semesters, I was hard-focused on finance, accounting, economics, etc, and ultimately, was only pursing those courses because I felt the need to for recruiting.
I'm not entirely sure on how recruiting in the UK works, but, I would urge you to truly capitalize on the academic resources available to you at Oxbridge. I find that my peers at lower-quality institutions genuinely lack the ability to learn under the brightest minds in their industries, and that's something that myself (and you) have the privilege of not experiencing. I always thought that university was a time where I can secure my future while also harnessing the benefits of elite academia. People like to believe this is mutually exclusive, but if you prioritze your time correctly, then you can truly enjoy everything your uni has to offer.
Girls can be a distraction though. Remember, they don't need to work as hard as us.
Incel shit like this is why your generation is so comically bad at picking up women.
It's just a coping mechanism guys use to avoid women out of fear/inhibition. I used to be like that at 21 then snapped out of it lol.
I find the more I date the more fulfilling my life & routine is, way more motivated in my studying, hobbies, work.
