Mistake on application form
I recently submitted an application to a bulge bracket bank and realised that I had made three spelling mistakes in my competency questions. Do you think they will reject me based on that? Also is it worth me making a new account and re-applying, and if they realise I have re-applied what's the worst thing that can happen?
Oh God! In a best case scenario they won't mind those spelling mistakes, and you'll get in, but that's only 10% chance. Why? Well I guess you know why or you wouldn't ask about it. Don't re-apply that will make things worse. Here's my strategy go now and apply somewhere else before the season ends, apply to some boutiques, if you didn't get a job in a BB you got to do something else or your career will just end. Apply to anything that has connection to IBanking, if you got lucky and got accepted in the BB you applied for at the beginning that's good, if the opposite happened, you can save your career with other job. If you just recently submitted your application then withdraw and create a new account with a different email. The Probability of them seeing these errors is higher than the probability of rejecting you because you created two accounts
Also, if they see these errors, you're almost certainly out (unless you're a truly exceptional candidate)

Hi guys,
I just realised that I made a slight spelling mistake in an email I sent to HR regarding an application for FT. The mistake wasn't in the application itself (ie cover letter or resume that was attached) but in my email body where I explained how my credentials had slightly improved since my previous application submission and listed 4 pretty decent events:
-Transfer to a target uni -Increased GPA to 3.7 from a 3.4 -Gained M&A work experience -Became appointed on an exclusive finance industry committee (non-uni related)
The fuck-up was that I spelled "unsuccessfully" and "successfully" as "unsucessfully" and "sucessfully"! Yeah, talk about a total DUMBASS.
Without soundng like a jerk, the quality of my application is pretty competitive but do you think they will instantly ding me because of this?
Please let me know what you guys think.

If you have a 3.7 from a target with M&A work experience, the bank will definitely let this one slide. Don't freak out about it. They may not even notice.
i addressed a cover letter for BCG to Bain once. I called HR to apologize and resubmit my cover letter, still got an interview. people only care if your cover is particularly good or bad...

I haven't heard back from 2 out of the 3 to acknowledge their receipt but it's still early days yet so here's hoping!
I've made those mistakes before, and have had people at the bank I was applying to have more mistakes than I would expect. They don't really care.
I had to read it a second time to even notice the typo and that's knowing there's a mistake. You're fine.
It's funny - you always read that one tiny mistake will completely tank your application, but I don't think it's the case. Especially when everything is so impressive. I mean, it might give the impression that you're sightly sloppy (even if it's not true) - but that shouldn't be a complete deal breaker. Good luck with it.

you have to tell us the nature of the mistake if you want good advice - be more specific.
On the title line of my cover letter I put: Application for an Investment Banking Division Analyst Position - Instead of Summer Analyst. Also at the : make me a suitable candidate as an Analyst- again instead of summer analyst
