MM to EB Lateral Prep?

As the title says, what would someone realistically have to do jump from a MM to EB as a A1. I understand the job market is not the best right now, and that EB's are already difficult to get into, much less lateraling in an economy like this. I'm looking for genuine advice.

I also understand that connections/networking are a must. But from a technical/industry stand point what level of questions should I be able to answer? Will it be industry based, technical based or both - or is it more bank dependent? Does my approach to recruiting need to be different than going from my internship to FT? Any advice would help!
