Moelis Boston Office Updated Reputation?

Hi all,

I know this has been touched on before, but does anyone have any insight into the Moelis Boston office? How is the culture/focus compared to NYC/LA? Is it considered considerably weaker or on par with the NYC/LA locations? Why would one choose Boston over other locations?

Solid culture, way weaker deal flow. Analysts not too busy and have been known to cross staff with other offices for pitches, but are rarely first choice for high priority execution. In general, Moelis satellite offices tend to be much weaker than NY/LA, speaking specifically with Boston and Chicago offices in mind. SF and Houston have their own niches and are a separate conversation. Unless you have specific ties to Boston, would advise focusing on NYC or LA offices to get the best experience.

Tech and Homebuilding - the office head is the MD for homebuilding who ppeared to have been in this specific vertical for most of his career

Weaker exits and less deal flow. If you're good enough to get an offer here, you can land a BB/EB tier 1 city offer which offers far more optionality and will most likely get you better exposure. They also do tech and homebuilding which are a weird duo, which means you aren't going to specialize in either, and since both are so different it's hard to really climb up the ranks. If this is all you can get offer-wise, the goal should be to switch to Moelis NYC/LA after the 2 years and either recruit out or stay in IB but at the main offices.
