Moelis Interview
So I managed to get an interview with Moelis for a FT Analyst position. I'm fairly nervous considering how impressive, and hardcore, they are. I am not a traditional Finance major but I have taken a fair amount of Economics and a little Accounting.
I was wondering what people's thoughts were in terms of preparation. I've read that Moelis favors technical questions in first rounds but does anyone have any more personal insight they'd mind sharing?
Thanks.
Know how to calculate FCF - walk through DCF model - public comps and m&a comps - what happens to X in balance sheet is Y changes in income statement - why banking - why moelis
good luck. Moelis has lot of UBS guys, legit boutique.
I am actually applying; when and how did you apply? Are you from a target? How are your stats?
Target, on campus recruiting. My GPA is good for my major but not for typical finance applicants.
I applied around the deadline for my school recruitment center.
One suggestion, always try to apply a few days before the deadline.
Well, I am shit out of luck since Moelis does not recruit from my institution. I wish I could answer your question.
What I've gathered is that if you have a good reason for wanting a specific boutique apply to them. Moelis is awesome for M&A as well as exit placement. If you can explain why you feel you're good for them rationally in a CL and have an airtight resume:

Just contact her with both and maybe a transcript.
What's the harm in trying? Just do it soon and do it right.
Best of luck.
By the way, thank you Don Corleone. I appreciate the direction.
Went through multiple rounds, got to final round and didn't get an offer.
Had banking experience, so it might have contributed to the fact that my "behavioral" first-round was 70% technical, while my "technical" final-round was 95% technical. Had to go as far as to make an LBO model on paper.
I'd prepare hard.
they are really hardcore... i heard ken moelis' "stage name" was buck naked.
Well Cornelius, I meant more hardcore in the workload sense but I'll be sure to bring up that tidbit in the interview.
@no homo, thanks for the heads up. Unfortunately I am not at the stage where I can make a model yet. I understand the concept behind what I read, but I don't have the time to teach myself everything that I should know, my school workload is obscene at the moment.
I'm going to try to go in as prepared as possible and just be honest about my level. Hopefully if I demonstrate that I am both competent in my non-finance technical abilities and confident I can develop the finance abilities quickly, they will recognize that I am good a fit.
