Money for nothing and the chicks for free

Thoughts? This may be old but still seems relevant.

In brief: “All we really want is to get paid and get laid."

Now it seems that people do banking for 1 of 2 reasons:

1) Want to make a ton of money and then retire/move on to something more meaningful
2) Prestige/wealth = getting laid, respect

Maybe a few people do it out of genuine passion for the job. But generally, I don't think it is unreasonable to say that these are the main reasons. My challenge to 1) is that plenty of people are engaged in low paying but rewarding careers that they love to do, and do not plan to retire from (e.g. college professors, ect). Simply giving up employment altogether at 35-45 often leads to depression (85% of suicides among retirees are men). So doing a job you hate for twenty years and then retiring, rather than doing a job that you love from the get-go, doesn't really make much sense.

So does banking simply boil down to #2, getting laid? If so, it seems like gregarious, type-A bankers shouldn't have much trouble in that department. So why the need for the huge paycheck in exchange for so much time (time being one thing that money, at least at this point, generally cannot buy)? As far as I can see, there are three logical answers:

1) need to accumulate start up capital
2) buying trophy wives when age takes its toll
3) (Relatively) classy h****rs!
