MS Menlo Park is a better brand name and places very well onto the buy side. I know a few people who worked there as analysts and now work in private equity. However, living in Menlo Park for two years in your twenties sucks. It's very suburban.

above_and_beyondJust out of curiosity, where do MS Menlo Park bankers usually live? Are some of them living in SanFran or are they usually somewhere near the office?

Anywhere in the bay area, totally dependent on the type of person. You can live in SF if you really want to party hard on the weekends even though you'll be working most of the time. Or you can live in Palo Alto/Menlo Park where you will be much closer to work but there aren't as many night-life opportunities (Palo Alto only has 3-4 bars/clubs). Also, rent is pretty much comparable across all areas so it's mostly based on whether you want to live close to work or want to live close to a better night life IMO.

Commute will be less than an hr from SF to Menlo Park both ways. Much shorter at night obviously as you'll be getting off much later, but depending on when you start, the longest it will take is an hour.
