MUFG CIB [NY]?
I know that CIB at MUFG is basically Corporate Banking. Given the scale of MUFG's BS, I was wondering if MUFG's CB have a lot of lead left roles on deals or is it mostly just participation roles on deals in the U.S. (NY)? Evaluating a potential opportunity there so want to do some DD on the platform.
Thanks!
Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know about MUFG's Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB) in the U.S.:
For a more detailed evaluation, consider the specific team and sector you would be joining, as experiences can vary widely within large institutions.

What team are you looking into? I'm joining the direct lending next summer
It’s called Corporate & investment Banking but basically it’s just CB
Could you possibly elaborate? Just curious, thanks.
Basically banks like MUFG have a nonexistent advisory practice because they just aren’t known in the US. That’s why they have a strategic partnership with Morgan Stanley. SMBC has a similar relationship that is advisory heavy with Jefferies where they basically got rid of US-based M&A and ECM teams and focused exclusively on their debt products.
Anyways, working at MUFG will be like 15-30% investment banking work 70-85% corporate banking work with a good WLB and lower comp reflected in that difference of work. You will be trying to penetrate revolvers for IG level companies and trying to pitch on DCM products on the coverage side. These banks typically have good product side groups like DCM and LevFin that are closer to IB in terms of work, but anything on the coverage side will basically be corporate banking work.
Mizuho probably does the most IB-adjacent work out of all of the Japanese banks and the lifestyle and comp are reflected in that.
Intrepid
At a similar bank. Mostly participation. The American BB’s pretty much lead everything. MUFG has pretty sizeable holds though
I see. So besides the BBs, there’s typically no other banks that are leading deals in Corp banking? Kinda new to the cb space so wanted to get a better flavor of the leading players
