Need Help for an Internship!
Hey guys,
I was cold emailing an alum at a boutique to ask for an internship.
He replied back and said they are not hiring.
I want to email him back and said I want to work for free if that make any differences.
Do you guys think this is a good idea? And if yes, how can I position the email in such way?
Thanks in advance
Just out of curiosity, can you post the e-mail you sent him asking for the internship?
Frankly, one of the worst things to do is just flat out e-mail asking for a position.
No no, I know this guy before as I talked to him twice so I don't just flat out asking for a position
Ah, gotcha.
Well then I think your best bet would be to move on. After speaking a couple times he should have an idea of whether or not he'll help you out or not.
I think its advisable to move on.
Dont be overly aggressive. Your initial reach-out email should be neutral, and concise. Don't just blatantly ask for something. But asking to be unpaid is actually a good idea, just from my experience. Just finished my soph year and doing boutique IB in nyc because I cold emailed over 600 people. I asked to be unpaid every time, and that gives you a leg up because they see that you are motivated enough to work just for the sole purpose to learn. Versus other kids who want the job and want to learn, sure, but they don't want it badly enough to the point where they'll do all those hours for free. I highly recommend this strategy, as someone will notice it and pick you up.
