Networking App for Finance??

Hey all,

I saw recently a startup which is an app where you can match with bankers, PE and other investment folks. Would people even use that? I barely have time to go to the bathroom and I cannot think of how I can spend 20-30 minute grabbing coffee with a stranger from BofA

Based on previous WSO threads, here's what you need to know:

  • Time Constraints: Many professionals in finance, especially those in investment banking, private equity, and similar fields, often have very tight schedules. The idea of spending 20-30 minutes for a coffee meeting with a stranger might seem impractical for some.

  • Networking Importance: Despite the time constraints, networking remains a crucial aspect of career growth in finance. Building a strong network can lead to new opportunities, mentorship, and valuable industry insights.

  • App Utility: The success of a networking app would depend on its ability to provide value efficiently. Features that could make it more appealing include:

    • Scheduling Flexibility: Allowing users to set specific times when they are available for networking.
    • Targeted Matches: Ensuring that the matches are highly relevant, which could make the time spent more worthwhile.
    • Virtual Meetings: Offering options for virtual coffee chats or quick video calls to save time on commuting.
  • Existing Interest: There is interest in niche networking within the finance industry, as seen in the cannabis industry example from the WSO thread. Professionals are willing to connect if the platform can facilitate meaningful and efficient interactions.

In summary, while time is a significant constraint, a well-designed app that addresses these concerns could still find a user base among finance professionals.
