I am in a similar situation to you. What I heard is that some networking is a good idea. Maybe a few calls (or a coffee if you're there geographically). Anything more will seem a little intense, but if you don't network at all it might seem like you aren't putting in the effort to get to know the team (especially if someone else in the group is doing light networking).
