Networking Question - CFO of a PE firm

I have a friend who is the CFO of a company that is working with a major Private Equity firm in NYC. I'm a rising senior at a mid-target school majoring in Finance and have put in well over 270 applications to both BB's and boutique firms. I was wondering if it would be "out of line" so to speak if I gave the CFO my resume and cover letter for this firm to give to a MD when he meets with them in NYC next time he goes.

Does anyone think this is a bad idea? Should I just stick to HR? BB&T is the only major bank that does recruiting at our school and usually brings in people for their management program which I have zero interest in. I'm wanting to do either M&A or Private Equity and this firm the guy meets with is a MAJOR firm.

Ok

1) I don't think it would be out of line to ask your friend if he could do it. Don't expect that it will happen though. Worth a shot.

2) You say you go to a mid target. Only BB&T come on campus for a management program? That isn't mid anything dude, that is non target.

3) PE straight from UG is tough when you go to the best schools, almost impossible when you go to normal schools.

Why not focus on getting a banking internship or boutique analyst spot? I also wouldn't be so disinterested in the BB&T thing. It is a formal program which looks nice on the resume and you can network within the company.

Post your resume so we can look at it. Go to Razume.

you have applied to 270 firms...why would anything be out of line....if anything they tell u no...try anything...
