Networking referrals - is this common?

Have had a few calls with some BBs in NYC and some people preemptively offer to refer me to their friends / basically loop me into accelerated recruiting without me even asking them. Have followed-up accordingly and get responses saying that they will just that they have been busy (which is very understandable) but then a week or two or even three passes and it doesn’t. Just wanted to ask if this is common and if it’s best to sit back and wait and not say anything (since I don’t want to come off as annoying)? I’m a non-target, non-diversity so I really want to make sure I’m not losing my chance on potential opportunities

My guess is this is just to get you off the phone - they know the ask is coming and that is a quick way to end the call. Not great that they don't follow up, and weird they take the time to reply to you that they've been busy (it takes the same amount of time to loop someone on?) but overall I would just count these out, if they wanted to loop someone in that takes 30 seconds and at this point they probably won't. You're going to annoy them if you keep following up.

How long are your calls usually? My only thought is you're keeping people on the phone for too long maybe

30 mins. It’s interesting as some called me on their own accord / contacted me on their own.
