Non-NYC investment banking options after an MBA from NYC based top MBA programs

I have been doing some research on this forum for some time but could not get clear answers to my question. I would be joining NYC based top MBA programs (think CBS, Stern) this fall. I am primarily interested in investment banking industry coverage groups. Is it very difficult to get these internships/jobs outside NYC (within US)? For personal reasons I can not go to business school outside NYC but would definitely like to move out of NYC area after my MBA or maybe 1-2 years after my MBA. I would really appreciate if you can give some insights on what are the chances of making this happen and what strategy I should use. Thanks in advance!

If it's CBS or Stern, then no - you can apply to any office and all banks will show up.

Thanks. Yes, this is CBS/Stern. Isn't hiring more school location based? Also, is it true that most of the IBD teams based out of NYC? Primarily interested in California or South. I don't think Boston has any IBD offices.

I attend one of the two you mentioned and while obviously class sizes are larger in NYC, people went to Houston, LA, San Francisco, chicago, etc. and obviously tons of foreign locales as well.

Can't think of anyone doing IB in the south but the banks don't have a huge staffing presence there.
