Non-Target Investment Banking MM SA chances?
Hey guys,
I'm a junior at a non-target and I had a horrible freshman year (a lot of personal problems), which is reflected in my GPA. I'm going to try hard and network my way into a MM IB SA position, but i'd just like to know all of your thoughts on my chances given that I do network. I assume BBs are off the table, even though my school does have a fair amount of alum to network with. Would it even be worth my time to network/apply to BBs? My resume is attached without my name and such on it.

Try to emulate the WSO investment banking resume template as much as possible. Second, the sophomore and cumulative gpa looks BS. Just put your major gpa only if you really want to try to pull something like that off. Last bullet point on WSJ looks like you can't think critically, you need to make it seem like you know your shit. Put some performance #'s!

Yeah it is but someone who does the math will realize that someone with a 3.1 cumulative over 2 years and has a 4.0 in sophomore year would have gotten a 2.2 in their freshmen year if they took the same amount of units. Like I said before he should just put cumulative or major gpa.
Your formatting is terrible. Use the Mergers and Inquisitions resume template. BBs aren't off the table, but you will need to network hard. Reach out to any and all alumni, but don't stop there. If there is a major bank with no alumni, reach out to a random person. Trust me, there are plenty of people who may not be alumni, but would still be willing to help. I would add an interests line to your resume- it makes you seem like a human being, not some finance robot. Just don't put "investing", "reading the WSJ", etc. there. Good luck.
Agreed. WSO resume template looks eerily similar to M&I.
Format, format, format
You're going to need to do a lot of networking. Your resume wouldn't make it past the first screen at BB's and elite boutiques, and also most MM firms. Consider a short regional boutique internship over winter break to boost your resume. If you keep up the strong academic performance this year and add a banking internship or two by the summer, then you should be in good position for MM IB for full-time positions.
