Office Visits
Hey guys, I'm a sophomore going to a non-target. I've been networking a lot lately, and I've had about 3 different people offer me to visit their office at BB's, I've never done it before so I would appreciate any help. These guys aren't exactly in IB but they're in pretty senior positions. Do you think they're allowed to take me to the IB floor and introduce me to some associates? What are the do's and don'ts of an office visit and is it better than a coffee chat?
Thanks everyone,
I like office visits, you can meet a lot of people, grab their card and follow up with a few (hey, we met last week when X brought me in, you mentioned your work in x sector, would you have time to chat) and at least for me it has gone well when mentioned in interviews. Also, the more practice you get walking into an office and having casual conversations, the better set up you are for superdays.
If they're not in IB they're probably just going to introduce you to their own group but if they have any connections in the IB group you could meet them as well. They take more time than coffee chats, so be very thankful to whomever sets you up.
Thanks, man really appreciate it. One question I always have is how disrespectful is it when you're talking to an alumni that's not in IB but you're interested in IB. I feel like they wouldn't like me telling them yeah im calling you just to get to your IB connections because it undermines their group.
Very good advice here. Networking is on easy mode this way.

Hi guys,
I was just wondering if anyone could provide some advice on what to or what not to do.
Myself and a group of students from my school were invited to attend an "office visit" at a Chicago investment bank this weekend. It will basically consist of presentations from members of each group, some Q&A sessions, and a lunch. What are some of the things I should do to get the most out of this experience?
I should also note that this is not any type of interview, just merely a visit.
Get cards. Email them later for an informational interview. You want to build a network.
Think of intelligent questions.
Choose wisely for lunch.
Good point! The most important interview of my life was right after I had just stuffed my face with a gyro. Think onions. Lots of onions. Also I was leaning over the table, showing my excitement for the position, and the interviewer (head of the entire group) leaned pretty far back in his chair.
Later I realized maybe there was a reason he was so far back!
"Lunch? You gotta be kiddin'! Lunch is for wimps!"
I think Gekko's quote might actually make for good advice in this situation.
And if you are actually having lunch with people who work there, you should spend the majority of your time talking with them and trying to network rather than eating.

Long time visitor, first time poster. I needed some help.
I am getting the opportunity to meet a few people at one of the MBB and visit their offices. I am currently a sophmore, so will obviously not be recruiting for them this year, but how can i best make use of this opportunity?
I will obviously try to make a good impression and keep in touch with them but other than that, any tips?
Thanks in advance. Sorry about the vagueness of this post; looking for some guidance.
Internships!! start early!
research the firm, so you can ask intelligent questions and show your interest. Also, although some firms indicate that they prefer juniors, they do recruit sophomores if they think these people are exceptionally good.
