Official Incoming Full-Time IBD Discussion...

For those of you who have recently graduated from college and are awaiting your full-time IBD start at a bulge bracket, what are you spending your time doing during the two month or so time period between graduation and training? Discuss your current preparations, studying, vacations, etc...anything you have planned during this 'free' period of time you have.

I would be interested in hearing what you guys are doing to prepare. I have a few vacations planned with some buddies, but I also want to try to ease the learning curve as best as possible. Are any of you going to try and spend some time studying or taking those online self-study IB modeling courses (BIWS, WSP, etc)? Are you going to try and learn excel a little better? What exactly are you guys going to do in regards to easing the learning curve?

Also, to those of you who are already knee-deep in your analyst stint, or have already completed it, feel free to give advice for preparing/easing-the-learning-curve.

Are any of you studying to take the GMAT, before starting in July, so that you don't have to worry about it during or after the analyst stint?

Discuss.

If you're starting FT at a BB, I'm more than sure their training programs will get you up to speed on modeling/Excel/etc. There's no real need to spend more time and money on this now - if I were you, I'd max out on Fun during this time (except for GMAT, see below).

Do take the GMAT if you have time, figure 3 weeks of studying not-too-hard (an hour or two a night sufficed for me), it's great to have it out of the way.

Can't wait for my Ibiza trip...

4 days in Barca, 8 days in Ibiza...definitely going to Amensia for Cream opening and Pacha for Swedish House Mafia and Shapeshifters/ATFC (Defected in the house, june 19), otherwise wanna check out Eden & Es Paradis...since I'm staying in San An those 2 are closer - walking distance even - to the hotel.

Other DJs, gonna go to the Hed Kandi opening party, Judge Jules/Richard Durand, hit up Ibiza Rocks (my friend is into Pendulum and that sorta thing, so we're gonna do that for 2 days)

Didn't see Lawler on the calendar, but I'd imagine he'll be there at some point: http://www.ibiza-spotlight.com/night/club_dates_june_i.htm

So stoked...

Yeah, but I will just feel more comfortable trying to 'ease' the learning curve to some extent. I can't help but feel like a lazy asshole without doing anything to prepare. I'll probably just order BIWS or something and brush up on excel and modeling. I've always kind of doubted my intellectual abilities and so I don't want to get into training and wish I had done something to ease the learning curve. I'd rather do more than necessary than the other way around.

On the other hand, part me feels like I should take the GMAT being that it's probably the best timing, but I just don't want to study school shit anymore. Will it really only take 3 weeks of studying to get a good score?

Other than all of that, I have a few trips planned with some buddies, should be fun. But when I'm not on these trips, I kind of want to do something to prepare for IB or take the GMAT if there's time.

Damn now I'm really feeling like I should wipe my ass with the GMAT this summer. How long did you study for and how did you go about studying for it? 700ish is the target score, what did you get?

My experience was about 3 weeks of "intense" studying, prior to that I had done some light prep, sort of a bit here and a bit there kinda thing, followed by an "initial" GMATPrep CAT where I hit 740 (q49/v42) - did a lot of math review, then took another practice CAT, hit 770 (q50/v44), the actual test hit 770 (q50/v46), totally satisfied with that...

Thrilla mighta had a different strategy though...

Check out these sites for GMAT info, among others: www.gmatclub.com www.beatthegmat.com www.800score.com (they mostly sell practice tests/prep, but they have a nice score calculator too)
