Own/Rent Manhattan

What percentage of your income after taxes and excluding bonus, do you guys spent on rent in manhattan?

Do any of you have mortgages? Is owning realestate in NY more efficient?

I can't imagine that it makes sense to buy in NYC (the city, not the state in general).

I pay about 35% of my take home pay after taxes to rent a condo basically on central park (by columbus circle).

You can find decent deals to purchase in NYC but you have to think about the monthly maintenance costs. The unit I am renting has monthly maintenance right around $1,500 a month. Imagine adding that to your mortgage payment.
