Phone Interview with Rutgers Candidate
So I interviewed a kid from Rutgers for a class of 2010 FT analyst spot.
I asked him what his greatest weakness was. He said that he was from Rutgers. Hilarious.

Hahaha, that's great. Did he make the cut for the second round interview? What kind of other questions and responses did you get?
Lol, that alone should get him the job.
I hope you gave him the thumbs up!
I must agree, hilarious!
el oh el ..ru rah!
I say give him the green light if he's good, but tell him never to say that again, haha. Geez.
I have used that card in interviews before (being from a non target), usually more for what are your 3 biggest weaknesses. And every interview I used it for led to an offer (for internships not FT)
The truth is that this IS his biggest weakness in getting the job. He has probably gone through lots of rejections and noticed that some of his IVY league friends are getting interviews wherever they like.
Yes it is a humorous way to answer the question, but it also is a true statement. I don't think it speaks anything of the education he received more so about the brand he carries on his resume.
The education he received his top notch and there are many MD's on Wall Street who attended Rutgers Undergrad and have gone on to MBA programs at IVY leagues. The fact is Rutgers needs to be given more respect!
"The fact is"...... I'm pretty sure that's an opinion, not a fact. Enjoy rutgers.
Fact: Harvey Schwartz - co-head of global securities at Goldman Sachs, Allan Holt - head of the US Buyout group at Carlyle, Arthur Newman - head of leveraged restructuring at blackstone and board member over looking CIT group (with John Thain) and Bob Druskin -ex COO of Citi are all alumni and come back to Rutgers in the past 2 years in the attempt to make the school more appealing to wall street.
Rutgers now because of Harvey is a core school for GS for IB/S&T/research and PWM. Rutgers has placed students in IB or S&T at GS, Citi, DB, UBS, BAML, CS and JPM in the past 2 years. MS being the only BB Bank not tapped yet. Which is much stronger than in the past.
jeez..and? i thought the kid was funny and gave him a second round. the only reason he got this interview is cause his "mentor" is one of my best friends.
i think that's a valid answer. as long as everything else in the interview went well
Interesting answer I must say....
Haha... that's a shot in the foot
