Potential leave of absense changes offer status?

Current rising jr (co 2022) here. I signed my offer for 2021 summer last month (IB at a boutique), but now am considering taking a gap year since my school is going remote for the year. I want to think this through before I decide and would value any takes on the situation here. I would take a gap year only if I was able to secure a solid internship. I am wondering how it would appear to HR if I asked for what their policy would be on taking a leave, since historically they did not hire sophomores.

Thanks all
