Promotion in Corporate Finance
How often do analysts that start at F100 company move up the ladder and what positions are like?
For example, in banking it's generally analyst, associate, VP, MD, etc. but how does it work in corporate finance?
It is different for every company?

Corporate Finance (NOT I-Banking) /Business Analyst Career Path? (Originally Posted: 03/31/2010)
So my current path has led me to a hybrid corporate finance / business analyst position for the trading arm of a MM I-Bank. I did the same type of work in my previous position, also with a trading firm. The corporate finance part is not I-Banking. I deal with financial planning and analysis, budgeting, reporting, forecasting, etc, as well as business analyst stuff (project management, telling IT how to fix our systems or make it better, etc).
What is the career path in one of these positions? Do you think that such a hybrid position would make me competitive for a top B-School, as opposed to those who are strictly accountants or strictly business analysts? If so, what positions would I be best for coming out of B-School? From the looks of it, it seems like my corporate finance experience is best for IBD, but I really want to go into S&T. Thanks
