Province Firm RX Co Final Verdict

There are ~4 different threads and everyone says something different. I'm trying to get a definitive read on culture/prestige, not comp, since that seems opaque. I’ve heard exits are solid (IB/T1 RX Consulting), but how is Province actually viewed by RX/banking folks?

Also, any insights on culture? Seems like it varies a lot by office, some say it’s chill and laid back (I have a good source confirming this), others say it’s a total sweatshop with rough MDs. Now that they’ve been acquired by Trivest, should we expect things to improve?

Talked to a headhunter and just want to double-check before following up. Should I go ahead/are they reputable or no go?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, Province is generally seen as a solid player in the RX consulting space, particularly for those looking to exit into IB or Tier 1 RX consulting roles. However, its reputation in terms of culture and prestige seems to vary significantly depending on the office and individual experiences.

Key Insights:

  1. Reputation and Exits:

    • Province is respected for its work in RX consulting, and exits into IB or top RX consulting roles are considered solid. While it may not carry the same prestige as top-tier RX groups like PJT, Evercore, or Houlihan Lokey, it is still a reputable name in the industry.
  2. Culture:

    • The culture appears to be highly office-dependent. Some sources describe it as "chill and laid back," while others report a "sweatshop" environment with challenging MDs. This discrepancy suggests that your experience may heavily depend on the specific team and leadership in your office.
  3. Impact of Trivest Acquisition:

    • The recent acquisition by Trivest could bring changes, but it’s too early to definitively say whether this will improve the culture or operations. Acquisitions often lead to shifts in management style, processes, and expectations, so it’s worth keeping an eye on how this develops.

Final Verdict:

If you’re considering Province, it’s a reputable firm with solid exit opportunities, but you should carefully evaluate the specific office culture and team dynamics. Since you’ve already spoken to a headhunter, it might be worth following up to get more clarity on the particular office you’re considering. If you have a good source confirming a laid-back culture in your target office, that’s a positive sign. However, proceed with caution and gather as much information as possible before making a decision.

From what I was able to gather they changed a lot in the last years. I know the Vegas and Miami offices are pretty laidback, ~50-60 hours/week unless there's something urgent (trustable source), no clue about NY/Greenwich/LA offices. NY and Miami often work together, Vegas works with Greenwich/LA; based on that distribution, I'd say that NY and Miami are more "financial" while others focus on the UCC consulting. Culture wise, they have been fixing/getting rid of bad culture recently, which was arguably a NY/Greenwich office thing. If you look up Glassdoor/WSO you'll see Province people saying they like the culture, so you should be good. In terms of prestige, it's a T2 RX Co firm so exits to T1 RX Co or RX IB; I wonder if there are any exits to corporate/C-suite as you would see in A&M. They were acquired by Trivest, so should see some growth/more clients in the coming years; might even do more than just UCC, who knows? Good place to be a junior and grind. Large boutique tier means junior staff work with senior partners so good for your experience. Def give it a go and see if comp is good, restructuring is a good place to be in the coming years.

edit about comp: I don't think comp is 250k An1 but also not as bad as some comments in other discussions make you think. I just looked up a job posting on Linkedin from 1wk ago and packages still include company profit sharing plan. Let us know if you get a number from them.
