PWP Lateral Hire Process

Does anyone have insight into the lateral hiring process at PWP? I’ve heard there is a DCF/LBO modeling component, and I’d appreciate hearing about others’ experiences. The role would be NYC-based at the Analyst 1/2 level.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, lateral hiring processes, including at PWP, often involve a mix of technical and behavioral components. For Analyst-level roles, it's common to encounter a modeling test, which could include DCF, LBO, or other financial modeling exercises. These tests are designed to assess your technical proficiency and ability to handle real-world scenarios.

Additionally, interviews typically include behavioral questions to evaluate your fit with the team and firm culture. You might also be asked about your previous deal experience, your motivations for joining PWP, and your understanding of the firm's focus areas.

If you're preparing for the modeling component, leveraging resources like the WSO Free Financial Modeling Series could be beneficial. It includes lessons on DCF, LBO, and other key modeling techniques taught by experienced professionals.

Does cold applying work?

I’ve gotten Interviews and superdays from cold applying lateral job postings, but it seems like other lateral job postings, you need to network. And depending on the bank, sometimes you need to network with HR team or bankers, but by the time you network (given that it takes a week to schedule a call and get passed around), there’s a good chance invites to R1 were already sent out
