question about resumes
Hi guys,
I summered in IBD at a BB and received an offer to return for full-time. I am interested in applying for a few other positions before accepting the offer, so I need to update my resume. My question is this: should I explicitly list on my resume / cover letters that I received a full-time offer from the BB? Something along the lines of "offered full-time position"?
Would greatly appreciate any help.
way is fine, but I would leave it off (personal preference). If they are interested in you, they will interview you based off your summer experience and other info on your resume. I think most places would assume that you have/had an offer and would plan to ask you in either case when they interviewed you
If you got an excellent evaluation at the end, can you note that somewhere on your resume, or would that be just like writing you got an offer?
have your chance to shine in the interview. I wouldn't put it on the resume; i think it looks tacky, but that's my own opinion.
any reason you're not going back? They'll ask you in the interview if you got an offer, etc. and perhaps why you aren't going back. Banks are generally very narcissistic and wants everyone to want them (Who doesn't). You probably don't need to play up the fact that you were incredible in an intern position, because in all honesty, there are probably another bunch like you.
The fact you got an offer makes you competent in the eyes of a recruiter, so i would leave it at that..

in IBD at a BB, you should be able to get interviews with almost every firm (they're willing to give a 30 min/1 hour 1st round to most people who meet any number of qualifications) so you should be set on getting in front of almost every firm you want. I don't think adding that you have an offer, received an excellent evaluation on your resume will really help much if at all. Instead, like the post above, be ready to answer questions about your experience, why you are not taking that offer, what the this bank offers that you are looking for, what you know about the bank, etc
applying for a HF, it could help (could also look tacky depending on the HF), but they are more likely to notice that plus high school test scores (which I also think are tacky to have on a resume), which most banks generally ignore
If above a 1400, put SAT score. Especially if you are applying to a hedge fund, but even a bank. I did not put mine down and I got asked it in every second round I ever had. When you recruit for PE, HF, headhunters tell you to put your SAT score on your resume as well.
I agree that it is a little tacky, but the people that are hiring prefer it. You should play to their desires and not a sense of propriety.
my reasoning for putting it on the resume / cover letter is in case they don't ask if i received an offer in the interview. i want to be sure i get credit for receiving an offer. should this not be a concern? is it basically guaranteed that they will ask?
It doesn't take much creativity to work it into the interview. Don't just wait for a question. They will certainly say "tell me about your internship" and you say, "I really enjoyed doing x, y, and z so when they invited me to come back full time it was very attractive. However, I also want to do a, b, and c at your firm because..."
I would put that you got an offer. I just can’t think of a nice way to state it.
Either way, this is a resume, its a place for you to brag, and its not just about getting the interview. Many times people look over resumes before interviewing and develop an early impression. Definitely brag. Plus there is always the off chance it does not come up in a first round, which would be a huge problem.

they will ask in your interviews if you got an offer. it will either be explicit or implied - what else are you considering.
i did not put my offer status on my resume. it didn't matter, being at a bb for the summer allowed me to get 1st rounds with every firm (regardless of industry) that i applied to.
no industry knowledge, yet, on how it would be perceived, but when i start looking at resumes in a few weeks, i will ding any resume that i see with that. it just looks tacky to me.
What if one worked in the back office of a BB and then networked their way to a full-time IB gig--should this be listed on the resume/cover letter? If so, how?
