Questions for lateraling into Media & Entertainment

Hoping some folks can give some advice in lateraling as a stub asso. Few questions I have:

Where are the media & entertainment (studio, tv, and the like) groups located? NYC or LA? Who are the top groups other than raine, liontree, Allen co, GS? Who are the big BB players? Also, which banks focus on the video game industry?

Is there a place where I can see recent deals for banks in the m&e space? For instance, in o&g, hart energy is a comprehensive news source that covers all transactions within the space.

For networking, how do I approach reaching out to people? It’s kind of hard to determine what some folks do based off their linkedin ie. job says TMT Goldman Sachs NYC but is your focus on a specific vertical or are you more of a generalist…? Also, do I reach out to asso’s, vp’s, or can I say fuck it and reach out to md’s and group heads to network? How many people is it appropriate to reach out to at each bank?

Other than knowing about the industry, how else should I prepare for interviews? Do I need to practice modeling for instance? Or is it more of just go over then 400’s again and you’ll be good?

Sounds like you started at UBS Tech and want out quick sorry to hear. Gaming there burns everyone out there without actually doing any deals

MOE LA

PWP LA (media+industrials) legacy LAZ

Macquarie LA (some real money gaming/ leisure)

Santander LA (Industrials, Real Estate and Gaming levfin — essentially casinos)

HL LA, not sure how big media is now, but also does RX, and business services in LA..

Plus a few boutiques scattered throughout the city.

Plus plus a few of the talent agencies have quasi-internal IB teams..

UBS tried covering but I think they don’t anymore. I believe the team was out in NY. Take it with a grain of salt
