RBC NYC Top Groups?

i'm incoming at RBC in new york next summer and am starting to try to figure out what group i want to be in. does anyone have any insight on what the top groups at rbc with best deal flow are? as of right now, i'm most interested in CME and levfin but would be open to exploring others. any insights on differences in group culture, deal flow, exit opps, etc. would be appreciated!

Copying my answer from a thread a year ago:

I used to work at RBC, here’s what I gathered:

Good Groups: M&A, PU&I, FIG, Lev Fin, Industrials (culture and turnover are awful in the first 2 tho)

Mid Groups: CME, RE, ECMDCM (obviously capital markets groups a little lighter on hours but exits a little harder to buy side)

Avoid: Healthcare, Consumer, Tech (healthcare has slightly better deal flow than the other 2, but turnover was insane, worse than M&A. Healthcare also lost their group head in mid-2024 to DB of all places,)

Keep in mind that “sweaty” at RBC doesn’t necessarily mean good or bad deal flow. M&A only touched deals once they went live - some groups, particularly those in the “avoid” category will have you pitching 24/7

What is so bad about consumer and tech?

Thanks for sharing! Following on CME -- heard amazing things but wondering how strong the deal flow is on the media/entertainment side of things.

FIG, PU&I, and M&A are the sweatiest, but arguably the best groups. LevFin is also great - leave early, come in earliest. Heard FIG SAs constantly pulled 3ams and most analysts are begging to leave.

M&A, PU&I, and FIG. Only M&A and PU&I are worth it, though. Based on a few friends who work in FIG, the group has terrible hours, culture, and exits. At least PU&I and M&A have good exits.
