Regional Investment Banking (Excluding San Francisco)

Basically, I'm from a extreme non-target with subpar test scores and GPA. Managed to somehow get multiple BB offers and interned at a top BB in a regional office. Did well in the summer with great reviews but wasn't able to get the full-time offer in New York or SF where I ultimately want to end up to set myself up for HF recruiting specifically.

I know some people have transferred within the same group after a year or less to New York or SF, but how do you go about such transition?

A lot of banks have a program that lets you transfer internally after 2 years if you stay for a third. If you're in Chicago or LA, there's definitely an opportunity to interview with HFs in both NY and SF.

I'll warn you that PE and HF shops definitely look at where you went to school, as well as your GPA and test scores, so just be prepared for that. Could make things a little more difficult come recruiting season.
