Rejected - Sophmore
8 am this morning, I got a call from human resources in New York (I live in Los Angeles) that because I was a sophomore, I have been rejected from first round interviews for Deutsche Bank, which I was previously accepted for.
I plan on going to 1st round interviews just the same and pretend I did not understand the call because I am pissed off. I spent all of yesterday preparing for this shit. What do you think of me going to the interview?
I do not think that is a good idea. It looks very unprofessional. You are only a sophomore, you have plenty of time to secure a SA position. Apply again next year as a junior and you will definitely have a much better shot. If you go into the office now and look all pissed off then it will definitely kill your shot for next year.
When you intially applied for the spot, did it specify that you needed to be a junior?
Not really sure how well pretending to "not understand" the call you received would work, but in any case I don't really see the upside.
I would advise against playing the "I didn't understand" card. A better idea would be to show up to the interview anyways, letting them know that you're a sophomore and would still like the opportunity to interview anyways (even if just for practice if need be). If they say no, I'd get their contact information and stay in touch over the next year expanding your network within the firm and improving your shot next year.
if you don't mind me asking, what division of DB is this? Banking, or Global markets??
The position did not specifiy juniors only or that they wanted people who were about to graduate. It is for IBD. It is an on-campus interview at UCLA. Human resources just contacted me this morning about this so perhaps the interviewers do not know about this yet.
All I really want is just some interview practice.
So the position was looking for people about to graduate and you applied as a sophomore?
So take my advice and go to the interview. If confronted by the interviewers (HR has most likely informed them you won't be interviewing and they've filled your spot), I would advise against playing the 'I was confused' card. Be forthright, genuine, and friendly and make the most of your conversation with the interviewers.
You're post confuses me WRT to the position. Make sure it's for a summer analyst.
It is for an SA position.
