Reneging on cycle offer?
How bad is it to renege an on cycle PE offer because i want to stay in banking? I’m an analyst at a BB. Is this an option or a hard no

Not a great look, IB/PE is a very small industry and even more so if these are in the same city / same coverage.
IMO I'd do at least two years in PE, experience it while you have the opportunity and even if you hate it, it will make you a much better banker. Leave on great terms with your bank, make it known with the top senior or two that you liked the experience and want to leave the door open to come back down the road.
You can always go back to IB, even back to the same group, but it'll get much harder to exit to PE if you decide you want that later on.
Thank you
Literally does not matter. Nobody cares, you’re an incoming associate…
Most funds only hire a few associates
