Renewable Energy IB Shops?

What are opportunities like for Infra in NY/SF? Any shops specifically focus on renewables?

Additionally, do those interview processes ask more sector specific technical questions or are they broad? I am considering these coverage sectors along with general IB positions.

Wells Fargo Renewable Energy and Environmental Finance

Bank of America Sustainable Finance

JP Morgan (has a renewable energy group, I can't remember the name)

The three banks above are the three big Tax Equity financing players.

Goldman Sachs Renewable Power

Macquarie Clean Energy Transition

Marathon Capital

Cohn Reznick

Raymond James Renewable Energy and Sustainable Investing

Societe Generale, Banco Santander, and BNP Paribas, HSBC, Truist are the other big ones I can think of. Most banks have renewable energy groups.

Raymond James shouldn’t be on this list.

the French banks have most of their head count in project finance. Canadian banks have good power teams

most banks have a power team at this point. Truist and RJ are like tier 7 in all honesty - below the French banks

Just to flag, think there is a bit of a distinction between if you want to do focus more on the renewable side more focused on projects vs. on the clean/climate tech side more on the start-up/growth side. Various amounts of crossover dependent on the group, but if you are wanting to target VC/GE in climate would argue that working within a group that gives you exposure to more typical business models / start-ups would be advantageous. The switch can be done but it’s a bit of a different animal vs. work closer to the P&U space.

Note that there's a difference between renewables M&A shops which have been listed above in this thread and then the project finance banks. The M&A banks run corporate and asset portfolio sales. The project finance banks provide construction and term debt financing for individual assets. If you want to be heavily involved at the asset level (ie. Looking at a particular solar/wind farm) you are best served at a PF bank. The leading PF Banks are European and Japanese.

PF Banks: SMBC, Mizuho, Santander, SocGen, Natixis, BNP, Credit Agricole, etc
