Are there any firms that combine the M&A team with restructuring? So basically, can an analyst work on M&A and also get exposure to restructuring at the same time at firms like ( PJT, EVR, Lazard)?
Both PJT and EVR recruit separately for RX and M&A. For PJT, RSSG recruiting is much earlier than M&A, but Evercore’s timeline is similar for both. Hope that helps
You should also keep in mind that RX can involve some degree of M&A work, but you would be better off at a generalist program if you want to work on dedicated mandates in both.
Moelis, Centerview, Ducera are generalist analyst programs. I have spoken to M&A and RX bankers who have taken on mandates during slow times i.e M&A analysts helping out with RX work in mid 2020 and RX analysts helping with M&A work in early 2021.
Still generalist - just with a “major / minor” scheme based on preference but know CVP RX analysts that are working on M&A and vice versa (to a lesser extent)
From what I understand they barely do it. If they are doing an M&A deal its because they have no RX in the pipeline so if you're looking for M&A exposure this isn't the place bc if Ducera is consistently doing M&As then that's a bad sign. Would stay away from Ducera if you're looking for exposure to both
If you're aiming to gain experience with both, there are specialized boutiques you can research that provide that. I'm at a boutique shop where we combine Rx, special situations M&A and even manage our own distressed debt private equity fund. Literally get exposure to everything!

Bump
Yep, there are generalist (M&A and Rx) programs at :
Lazard (intern-level only, you get chosen for a group for full time)
Moelis
Ducera (though the firm leans heavily towards Rx mandates)
Centerview
Does Moelis and Centerview offer FT combined program?
Any insight on PJT/EVR?
Moelis and Centerview are both combined analyst programs, PJT and Evercore both recruit separately for Rx / M&A
PWP internship is also generalist across m&a and RX
Yeah this is wrong and outdated. Moelis NY is not a generalist program anymore.

Not Moelis NY anymore
Since when? It was generalist for SA2022
I don't think Centerview is either? I recall a friend interviewing for Centerview RX specifically.
Same

Does anyone know Ducera’s split on restructuring vs m&a deals. i haven’t really heard of them doing pure m&a.

That sounds super interesting. Which firm are you at if you don't mind me asking?
