RO in adjacent role to IB?

I got a return offer in corporate banking, I've wanted to do IB for awhile just missed recruitment cycle. I have year until I start is it possible to switch before? I do not care about renegging offer.

“It was great meeting John today and just chatting about the recruiting process in general. John seems very easygoing and is very willing to answer any questions about my resume and networking.
