Road to PE

I am a first year private capital markets analyst and would like to work for a smaller healthcare PE shop. I am trying to figure out the best way to get there. I went to a non-target and had a 3.3 in undergrad. I was a collegiate athlete that was not academically focused, but then transferred to an instate state school. To me, it was the best/most affordable option.

My current thoughts are: - get into DCM at a MM/larger firm (something larger than a 30 man boutiqe), try to lateral into the Levfin or Healthcare coverage group, then get into a small healthcare PE shop - press the "reset button" try to get into top 25 mba program, do healthcare IB coverage, then PE healthcare

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks.
